Masque of the Red Death

The Masque of the Red Death is a short storey written by Edgar Allan Poe using his gothic style. Poes point centers in a country devastated by a crime called Red Death. There are only dickens main characters in the story, Prince Prospero and the mystic figure. Prince Prospero is the duke of the fictional country in the story. He is portrayed as a wealthy and gilt man. He has no compassion for the needy and his fellow men. This is shown when the illness terribly hit the country but no entrance action was done by Prince Prospero to those who were greatly affected by the plague. He even arranged a masquerade wind for his friends and wealthy citizens. Prince Prospero loves his life and wealth so much, that he vox populi his treasures will surpass death and mortality. The mysterious figure in the story symbolizes the Red Death. The mysterious figure is steep and gaunt and according to the narrator, he looks like a corpse. His window-dress and appearance resembles the grave. He is also described as someone who was infected with the disease that hit the country. He is in stake of someone who wants to escape mortality. Of these two characters, I can understand that there is no particular character that gained my liking more than than the other.



I dont like Prince Prospero that much because I dont like his arrogant stead and his look of immortality. I also dont like the mysterious figure because he symbolizes the Red Death which caused sufferings to the people in the story.
Though I dont like the characters that much, I understand Prince Prospero most thoroughly. I can understand that his attitude is caused by too much of his wealth and pleasures in life. He was blinded by the material things that the world offers and thus resulting to his doctrine of his immortal self.
