Abstract

Social stratification, defined as a system by which a society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy, is base on four important principles: is a trait of society, not simply a reflection of individual differences , it carries over from genesis to generation, it is universal scarcely variable, and it involves not just inequality but beliefs as well. (Macionis, 2009 pg 209) I chose to observe the pilot episode of goggle box show The Nanny for this paper. The show was about a female child who wasnt rich, was dumped by her boyfriend and blast from her job as a bridal consultant. She resorted to selling cosmetics threshold to door when she met maxwell Sheffield, a widowed, Broadway producer. She was mistakenly thought to be an applicant for a job as the nanny for his three children and hired. Needless to say, it was a clash of the classes.
DISCUSSION

The Nanny provided for me a lot of examples of inequalities and differences in the accessible classes but also in values and norms. Fran Fine was a middle class working person who was dating Danny who own the bridal shop she was working in. Right away we seduce a touch of caste in that she was dating soul basically her own rank.



She was then dumped by her boyfriend and fired from her job. She resorted to selling cosmetics door to door for m geniusy and that is when she landed on Maxwell Sheffields doorstep. He was a handsome, wealthy, Broadway producer in search of a nanny for his three children. The butler mistook Fran for one of the applicants for the job and invited her in. She was a loud New Yorker who said things alike they were and would shoot from the hip, where Mr. Sheffield was a prim, proper, soft spoken businessman. He at first looked down upon her, thinking because she was a door to door cosmetic saleswoman, thinking her to be of lower class, that she wouldnt be able to handle caring for his three children.
